Checking out the competition: Toronto Maple Leafs

The Flyers are coming off of a well-deserved victory against the Rangers yesterday afternoon that may have them a little tuckered out, but the Leafs played yesterday too so we can’t use back-to-back games as an excuse to come out slow in this game. It’s no secret that the Maple Leafs are a better team playing better hockey than our boys, but they have some weaknesses that the Flyers can exploit if they, you know, try hard. In an effort to learn a little about about the 2018-19 version of the Maple Leafs we had a talk with Sean McIndoe – or DownGoesBrown, if you will – from The Athletic and Canadian television and your local bookstores and stuff. Here’s what we chatted about:

  • The Leafs’ solid goaltending, and when riding the hot hand is too much pressure
  • William Nylander, because of course
  • The Leafs’ young defense, that probably gets a little underrated in the shadow of their insane offense
  • A hockey professional’s outside opinion about the current state of your Philadelphia Flyers/

Game’s not til 7PM tonight and it will air on NBC Sports Philly locally, the NHL Network nationally, and if you’re in Canada it’s the Hockey Night In Canada game. Lot’s of eyes on this one, so let’s go Flyers.
