Photo Gallery: Flyers vs Islanders

The Philadelphia Flyers were back at the Wells Fargo Center after a gutsy win over the Chicago Blackhawks earlier in the week. A loss against the New York Islanders at home could very well their playoff home with just seven games remaining.

The game got off to a slow start. Robert Hägg got called for a phantom penalty, but karma would leave its mark. Hägg fired a shot towards the net. A weird deflection would bank in and give the Flyers an early 1-0 lead. After the Islanders took back the lead heading into the third period, the Flyers were called for another brutal penalty, on an interference that wasn’t anything close to it. Add on a Jake Voracek minor for unsportsmanlike conduct, and the Flyers had a ton of adversity.

Carter Hart came up big, making important saves to help his team kill a two-minute, 5-on-3. Following the kill, Shayne Gostisbehere lit the lamp with a blast. It felt like momentum was shifting. New York responded immediately as Josh Bailey recorded two goals in the final two-minute span to win it. The Flyers lost 4-2. They return to action on Sunday against the Washington Capitals, needing to win out for a chance to make the playoffs.
