Photo Gallery: Flyers vs Oilers

The Philadelphia Flyers are red hot and tried to add to their season-high, six-game win streak. The Orange and Black got out to an early lead as Sean Couturier opened the scoring on the power play just three minutes into regulation.

Edmonton would bounce back, scoring three consecutive goals to take a 3-1 lead towards the latter part of the second period. The Flyers were getting outworked and outshot by a large margin. Carter Hart did his best to keep the team in striking distance and make time for a comeback.

Before the second period ended, Claude Giroux would score on the power play to give them a one-goal deficit heading into the third. The Oilers almost put the nail in the coffin with an early third period goal, but Travis Konecny made it a 4-3 game on the power play just 30 seconds after Edmonton’s fourth goal. Finally, with the Flyers on another power play halfway through the third, Wayne Simmonds tied the game with a wrist shot and gave Philly their fourth power play goal of the game.

As regulation came to a close, Nolan Patrick missed a chance to give the Flyers a late win. He was frustrated, but the team knew they still had the OT period. In the extra period, Patrick found redemption, getting a pass from James van Riemsdyk after an incredible shift and winning the game. Philadelphia has won seven-straight games and head into Monday’s matchup against Vancouver as the hottest team in the league.
