Shayne Gostisbehere adds his name to Flyers history with overtime winner

Ghost!!!

Okay, so Shayne Gostisbehere’s overtime winner was awesome, right? Of course it was, and not just because it snapped a three-game losing streak for the Philadelphia Flyers, or the second goal of his very young career. Nope, it was also because it was an overtime winner, and those are always awesome.

This is a special overtime winner, though. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Ghost is only the third Flyer rookie ever to score a regular season overtime winner – a feat that hasn’t been accomplished in 22 years.

The last time a Flyers rookie scored an overtime winner was actually four days before Gostisbehere was even born, when on Apr. 16, 1993, defenseman Dmitry Yushkevich defeated the Hartford Whalers.

The first Flyers rookie to get the win for his team in extra time? Another defenseman: on March 13, 1991, Murray Baron filled the back of the Vancouver Canucks‘ net.

But that’s the past. Today is all about Ghost Bear, because Ghost Bear got it done for the Flyers in epic fashion, and it was awesome.
