Above all else on Tuesday night, the Philadelphia Flyers needed to win.
It didn’t matter how, it didn’t matter why. Our boys in black and orange had to fight to extend their season, and they did exactly that, pulling off another overtime victory, earning a sixth game in this second round series against the New York Islanders.
Leading 3-1 with under five minutes to play, you’d think maybe the Flyers wouldn’t have needed overtime to force another contest on Thursday, but they once again blew a third period lead only to erase their failures in the extra session.
Claude Giroux, James van Riemsdyk and Matt Niskanen all scored their first 2020 postseason goals, and Scott Laughton tipped home the winner for his first since the round robin games to ensure Philly’s season did not end on this night.
Now, with Sean Couturier potentially injured, the Flyers face the same challenge on Thursday- win or burst the bubble. But for now, we can all take solace in he fact that there will be another game in this postseason.
