Preseason hockey is still hockey

In case you were wondering how seriously the NHL takes its own preseason games, their official box score for the game, as of 10:50 PM on Monday night, read all zeros. The rosters weren’t shortened to list who was actually playing, there were no goals or penalties recorded. Nothing.

In that vein, I present the first Broad Street Hockey postgame podcast of the new season, following a game that I did not see.

Ok, that’s not entirely true. I saw a decent amount of the third period. And the game isn’t really what we’re concerned about, is it? Don’t you really just miss listening to the sound of my voice, uninterrupted, for 45 minutes? I know I certainly do.

So, what does everybody think of the contracts handed out to Travis Konecny and Ivan Provorov? How concerned are we that Chris Stewart is going to be on the ice when the real games get started? What kind of first impression did Kevin Hayes make? How do Robert Hagg and Samuel Morin fit into the revamped defense?

The commenters and I get into all the hot training camp topics as the new season gets underway. Give this a listen, won’t you?
