The Noon Number: 4

4 – the number of times in their 46-season history the Flyers have missed the playoffs in back-to-back seasons.

The Flyers fell out of playoff positioning over the weekend, falling behind Columbus and the Rangers in the Metropolitan Division, and behind Detroit in the Eastern Conference wild card race.

There’s still plenty of time to go before the end of the season, but if the Flyers were to miss the postseason this year, it would be just the fifth time they’ve done so in consecutive seasons. They haven’t done that since the early 1990s, when they missed the playoffs in five straight seasons (or four sets of back-to-backs), from 1989-90 to 1993-94.

Other than that stretch, the Flyers have never missed the playoffs on back-to-back occasions. Ever.
