Tuesday Morning Fly By: Some eclipse

March 23, 2024 (Philadelphia, PA): The Philadelphia Flyers play a game against the Carolina Hurricanes at Wells Fargo Center. Credit: Heather Barry

*We’ll kick things off here with the news of the day (well, yesterday). The Flyers have signed Swedish winger Oscar Eklind to an entry level contract beginning next season. [BSH]

*Undeniably, it’s been a strange situation for the Flyers at the goaltending position for much of this season, and John Tortorella stands by the work Sam Ersson has done, and his own decision to ride or die with him. [NBCSP]

*We worked through a lot of playoff related thoughts and feelings yesterday, beginning with a moment to take stock of the remaining schedule and do some slightly convoluted math to figure out how the Flyers could get themselves back in this playoff race. [BSH]

*We also talked about some of the reasons why they’ve dropped back in the race and fallen out of a playoff spot in the first place. [BSH]

*And finally, we talked a bit about how, if they ultimately fall all the way out of the race and more or less lose out the rest of that way, it might not be the worst thing. [BSH]

*It’s kind of hard to point the finger at just one player for how things have gone sideways, that would be unfair. But it’s also fair to say that the Flyers, as they’ve tried to right the ship recently, have needed more from Travis Konecny. [The Athletic]

*Keeping with that theme, here’s a whole list of players who it would be cool to see more of or from through the end of the season. [The Athletic]

*It’s debate time. It’s time to talk about the most impactful trade deadline acquisitions. [NHL]

*You know what else it’s time for? To do discourse about the playoff format. [TSN]

*And for the prospect watching sickos, some news: defenseman Landon DuPont has been granted exceptional status and will play in the WHL next season as a 14-year old. [ESPN]
