What a draft-day trade-up could look like for the Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers are in a bit of a conundrum right now. They’re in a playoff spot; that’s good, right? But at the same time, their draft position is hurting, which is unfortunate for a team in a rebuild. If they were to theoretically stay in a playoff spot or potentially finish just short of one, it’d be unlikely for them to land one of the top defenders in this season’s stacked class if they just stayed put. So what if they didn’t? What if they put everything on the line and went for it?

This 2024 draft class is very deep with defensemen. Like, almost to the point where it’s ridiculous. The Flyers could potentially land a difference-maker without having to trade up at all, but a lot of that depends on how they finish this season. Right now, they’re on pace to land the 18th- and 28th-overall picks based on their own points percentage and that of the Florida Panthers — putting them out of the range of many of those major players.
