World Juniors 2017: Tanner Laczynski named to Team USA’s preliminary roster

Flyers prospect Tanner Laczynski is one of 27 players who were named to the preliminary Team USA roster for the 2017 World Junior Championships, which will be held Dec. 26 through Jan. 5 in Toronto and Montreal.

Laczynski, selected by the Flyers in the 6th round of the 2016 NHL Draft, is one of 16 forwards on the preliminary roster. Team USA is expected to carry 13 forwards to the tournament, and they expect to announce the final roster by Christmas Eve.

The players will attend training camp Dec. 16 to the 20 at HarborCenter in Buffalo, followed by an additional camp in Oshawa, Ont., from Dec. 20-24. The U.S. will play pre-tournament games Dec. 21 against Switzerland in Oshawa and Dec. 23 against the Czech Republic in Kingston, Ont.

Laczynzki is a freshman at Ohio State, and a big reason that program has vaulted into the top 10 in the national polls through the first half of the college season. His six goals and 16 assists lead the No. 10 Buckeyes in scoring, and it’s good enough to rank him in a five-way tie for ninth in the country.
