Zac Rinaldo traded to Bruins for 3rd rounder because Ron Hextall has superpowers

Ron Hextall is still a magician. That draft. That Pronger + Grossmann trade. And now, he’s just straight up embarrassing other general managers.

The Philadelphia Flyers have acquired a third-round pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft from the Boston Bruins in exchange for C Zac Rinaldo, according to general manager Ron Hextall.

A third-round pick for Zac Rinaldo. A THIRD ROUND PICK FOR ZAC RINALDO!

Rinaldo was a fan favorite in Philly for a lot of reasons, but the reality is that he’s a below-replacement level player who has done nothing to prove that he deserves a regular job with an NHL team. He brings fire and energy and physicality to a game, but he takes too many penalties and suspensions to effectively help his team on a consistent basis. He was a major reason why the Flyers were destined to have an ineffective fourth-line the last few years, in all honesty.

To get a third round pick for a guy like that is just remarkable. Ron Hextall’s week just keeps getting better, and Bruins’ GM Don Sweeney just got dunked on for like the eighth time this week.

Here’s more of our Zac Rinaldo coverage from over the years. Bye, dude.
