BSH Radio reacts following a 5-1 loss to Tampa Bay

Despite outshooting the Eastern Conference’s number one seed 37-22, the Philadelphia Flyers fell to the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-1 on Thursday night at the Wells Fargo Center. The Flyers will now have off until Wednesday January 31 for the All-Star break.

Michal Neuvirth, making a surprise start in place of Brian Elliott who was scratched with an undisclosed lower-body injury, was less than stellar stopping only 17 shots on the evening.

The lone bright spot of the evening was Travis Konecny extending his goal-scoring streak to four games, lighting the lamp on the power play to cut Tampa’s lead to 3-1 with less than seven minutes to play.

The goal was the result of a Doug Pederson-esque risk on the part of head coach Dave Hakstol, who called a timeout on the power play, pulled Neuvirth in favor of an extra attacker, Konecny, breathing life in to what seemed to be a lost cause.

The comeback was thwarted shortly after by Vladislav Namestnikov, scoring moments after exiting the penalty box for the interference call that lead to Konecny’s tally.
