The Philadelphia Flyers announced on Monday the organization has loaned right-winger, Bobby Brink, to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. In return, Olle Lycksell has been recalled and will join the squad for tomorrow’s home matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The move comes amid a rough stretch for Brink, who has failed to tally a point in his last seven games. Brink was also a healthy scratch for the last three contests, being substituted by Nic Deslauriers, a player not necessarily known for his offensive productivity.
On the season, Brink’s stats aren’t atrocious. The 22-year-old had eighteen points through his first thirty games, and despite this recent slump, he attributes a 53.4 corsi-for percentage. The demotion will hopefully serve as a temporary reset for a player who needs to regain some confidence.
As for Brink’s replacement, Olle Lycksell has proven himself to be a powerful AHL forward. Lycksell has accumulated 28 points in 33 games for the Phantoms this season. He has four goals in his last five appearances and hopes to maintain the pace in the Wells Fargo Center.
Lycksell isn’t exactly a stranger to the NHL, but in his eight games last season, he failed to take advantage of the opportunity. With that said, this Flyers team is very different from the team of 2022-23, and Lycksell might find more offensive support on this squad, support that was simply nonexistent last year. In this sense, Monday’s move is a two-fold opportunity. On one hand, Bobby Brink has an opportunity to show that he is simply too good for the AHL, and he could thereby cement himself a role on the Flyers roster. One the other hand, Olle Lycksell would like to show the Flyers management that he can produce more offensive strength with this year’s stronger support system.
