It doesn’t look like the Flyers will land North Dakota free agent Drake Caggiula

Well, I guess the Dave Hakstol pull wasn’t enough for Drake Caggiula. The North Dakota senior, who played three years for Hakstol, just finished his college career last month with two goals in the national championship game and a Frozen Four MVP award. He’s widely believed to be ready to step into the NHL at any time.

And he is signing with a team in Canada.

Caggiula visited the Flyers the night of the now-infamous bracelet game during the Washington series. That was not exactly a great night for the organization, and obviously the team was embarrassed on the ice as well. Hard to imagine that’d be the sole reason Caggiula is picking another team, though.

Rumors say that Edmonton and Vancouver are the leaders for him. His North Dakota teammate, Brock Boeser, is a Canucks prospect and there was apparently some peer pressure put on there. If he signs with Edmonton … well, I don’t know. Making your own bed there dude. Then again, North Dakota and Edmonton are about equal on the Miserable Places To Live scale, so he’d feel right at home.

Oh well. On to the next one.
