Flyers vs. Blackhawks: Odds, Predictions, and Picks

Predictions

That Devils game is behind us, right? Right?

Tonight, the Flyers make the trip over to Chicago for the first time, but despite the Blackhawks being a pretty bad hockey team, this game feels kind of important. There are roughly twenty five games left in the season, and the Flyers are only five points away from being knocked out of the playoffs. In times like these, a win against the league’s worst team becomes extremely important, especially when the Flyers have recently exhibited some inconsistency.

If the Flyers take care of business tonight, they could easily extend their point league over the Devils to seven points, as the Devils face a stout New York Rangers team tomorrow night. Think about it. If the Flyers were to miss the playoffs, these would be the moments that we look back upon and say, “That would have been a nice opportunity to gain some ground in the standings.”

There is reason for optimism, however. A recent article by BSH’s Jason MacNeil points out that, historically, the Flyers have found quite a lot of success after losing outdoor games. Could tonight be the start of a four or five-game winning streak? Here are our picks:

Picks

Over 5.5 (-130)

  • This one is nothing more than a gut feeling. If Connor Bedard and Philipp Kurashev combine for two or three points, and the Flyers take the win as expected, this seems like a solid hit. The odds might be a little cheap at -130, the scoreboard should at least show 4-2 when the clock reaches 0:00.

Philadelphia Puck Line -1.5 (+130)

  • If the last pick came from the gut, this one comes from the numbers. We don’t take a lot of Puck Line bets, particularly on the favorite, but DraftKings Sportsbook is giving us plus money for the Flyers to win by two or more. Remember, the Flyers have played better on the road than at home, and against a sorry team like the Blackhawks, this one feels pretty good.
