Predictions

The Arizona Coyotes are not a great hockey team. Sure, they are better than Coyote teams of the past, but they are by no means a Stanley Cup contender. The Flyers, however, just might be.

It might have been exciting to watch the Flyers beat up on high-level organizations like the Winnipeg Jets, but in reality, a defining characteristic of a promising hockey team is the ability to win games that you are supposed to win. Tuesday’s game was one such example. Playing at home (where the Flyers shouldn’t struggle as much as they do) against a team on a five-game losing streak, the Flyers needed to turn on the goal-scoring switch. The offense had been eerily quiet in the prior month, and to make matters worse, the Coyotes found a way to add to their lead each time the Flyers caught up. The game was a test of will for the orange and black. Could we come back from behind, not just once but every time the Coyotes took the lead? Could we get the offense clicking? Could we continue to lock down defensively despite a few early breakdowns? And of course, all of this carried the weight of knowing this was a should-win game.

Tonight is not a should-win game, but it will test the Flyers’ character just the same. When the vibes are good–yes, they are very, very good–is there a temptation to get complacent? The Flyers are comfortably in playoff position with exactly two months left of the season. The trade deadline is approaching, and with each passing day, it seems less and less likely that Danny Briere will be a seller. Will the team keep the flame burning? Here are our picks:

Picks

Over 6 (-118)

  • The Over Club has been hurting lately, so this pick might seem irresponsible. The last time we made this pick, the Flyers took on the Seattle Kraken with an Over set at 5.5. Still, the teams failed to meet the mark. The Maple Leafs, however, are very capable of putting points on the board. We aren’t quite sure if the Flyers will continue the offensive momentum created on Tuesday against the Coyotes, but we are smashing the Over.

Joel Farabee Under 0.5 Points (-120)

  • Farabee might have the second-most points on this roster (41), but he has no goals and one assist over his last five games. Keep in mind, four of those last five games were wins for the Flyers, so Farabee wasn’t short of opportunities to get on the board. Farabee could right the ship tonight, but we aren’t so sure. We are taking the Under on his point total.
