Morgan Frost vows to make it up to the fans after he ‘f–ked up’ in overtime vs. Islanders

Morgan Frost quickly went from hero to goat at the Wells Fargo Center on Monday night.

The Philadelphia Flyers battled back from a 3-2 deficit in the third period to earn a point with Frost putting home a rebound to tie the game.

Unfortunately, despite the Flyers attempting to play smart in overtime by possessing the puck, Frost couldn’t handle the pass from Jamie Drysdale and the Islanders took advantage.

The Flyers lost the second point to the Islanders and it was the fifth straight loss (0-3-2) for the Orange and Black. Philadelphia now has just six games remaining, four on the road and then two at home.

Frost addressed his turnover after practice on Wednesday.

“Excuse my language, but I know I f–ked up in the overtime there,” Frost said. “So I’ll try to make it up to my teammates and the fans on this next stretch of games.”

The 24-year-old forward has been consistently inconsistent during his NHL career, and that was displayed perfectly on Monday night. After a lackluster performance at 5-on-5, Frost potted the tying goal at 6-on-5 before his mistake in overtime led to the Isles’ game-winner.

Frost set career-highs in goals (19), assists (27), and points (46) last season, but most of that damage came in the second half when the Flyers were playing meaningless games. He once again had a slower start this season with eight points in his first 21 contests before putting up 33 points in his last 44 games.

Still, throughout the last 44 games Frost has had some periods where he hasn’t been on his game. When he’s on, he’s on, and that’s obvious with his confidence stickhandling the puck. That was evident during his six-game point streak last month, but he has just two points in his last five games now.

The Flyers are going to need Frost to step up over these final six games and beyond if they make the playoffs, especially with Sean Couturier now day-to-day with a sprained shoulder. The captain is not traveling with the team for their back-to-back set this weekend, so Frost could see increased responsibilities. He was on the top line with Tyson Foerster and Travis Konecny at Thursday’s practice.

Frost has been up and down this season but he’ll try to flush away Monday night’s mistake heading into the home stretch.
