Happy Monday, folks! If you were hoping to ease into this week quietly, with little to no drama unfolding in the world of the Flyers, well, you’re out of luck. The team’s just announced that Michal Neuvirth has been placed on IR (back dated to October 30), and they’ve recalled Alex Lyon from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
Did we see this one coming? It felt like a distinct possibility, after Neuvirth was sent back to Philly ahead of the team to be evaluated by the team’s doctors for an unspecified injury. It could have been nothing, but it sounded like it was bad news, and indeed it was.
We haven’t seen a whole lot of Neuvirth so far this season—after sustaining a lower body injury in training camp, he’s only played two games so far, one on a conditioning assignment with the Phantoms, and the weekend before last against the Islanders. And now he’s gone again.
So, then, where does Alex Lyon come in? There was some kind of situation in practice yesterday, involving a collision between Travis Konecny and Brian Elliott, which saw Elliott leaving in some discomfort. We haven’t gotten an update on his status, if he’s good to go for tonight’s game. Best case scenario, he is good to go and they brought Lyon in as a just-in-case. Worst case scenario, Elliott misses some length of time, Lyon backs up tonight, and we go from there. He’s been off to a good start with Lehigh Valley, with a .934 save percentage in his three games played.
If this all sounds a little vague, this whole situation, it’s because it is. We haven’t been given a whole lot to work with, but hey, once we get the updates you all will be the first to know. Let’s go, whichever of the Flyers are still standing.
