Owen Tippett leaves Saturday’s game vs. Avalanche with apparent knee injury

Owen Tippett

The Philadelphia Flyers have been on the luckier side this season when it comes to injuries, but that may have changed on Saturday afternoon. Owen Tippett left Saturday’s game against the Colorado Avalanche with an apparent knee injury after going into the boards awkwardly.

Tippett hobbled to the bench and remained there for a few minutes before heading up the tunnel to the locker room. The Flyers then announced that Tippett would not return due to a lower-body injury.

Tippett picked up an assist on Travis Konecny’s second-period goal to extend his point streak to three games. Tippett has eight points in his last seven games to bring him up to 30 points in 46 games this season.

Losing Tippett for any length of time would be tough for the Flyers. The 24-year-old winger has been making highlight-reel plays on what seems like a nightly basis.

The silver lining to this for the Flyers — if there is one — is that they’ve had a variety of forwards step up for them this season. The return of Noah Cates pushed Nicolas Deslauriers and Bobby Brink up to the press box as the Flyers have gone with 11 forwards and seven defensemen in recent games.

Brink would likely return to the lineup if Tippett is out for at least a game. Brink has 18 points (seven goals, 11 assists) in 38 games during his rookie season.

The Flyers return to action on Sunday afternoon against Claude Giroux and the Ottawa Senators at 1 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Center. Stay tuned for updates on Tippett’s injury status.
