Flyers finalize roster, taxi squad

Do you smell that? It’s the fresh scent of decision making and rosterbation coming to an end with the Philadelphia Flyers cementing their 23-man active roster and the expanded taxi squad for the upcoming 2020-21 regular season.

There are no real surprises, but instead we have good comeback stories that will play out through the entire regular season, as forwards Nolan Patrick and Oskar Lindblom are listed on the Opening Night roster. Other than that, it’s your typical dudes.

Unless you really dislike Morgan Frost making the lineup that is. It was initially thought of a difficult make, especially with the two aforementioned forwards coming back into the fray, but Frost is going to be in the lineup, either down the middle or on the wing. Viewed typically as a “top nine or nothing” player, it will be interesting to see where he can slot in the lineup, as he is currently set to be the 13th forward.

As for the additional taxi squad this year, the Flyers had the option of four to six players and one must be a goaltender, so it was a fairly easy decision for the team. Alex Lyon will provide that one netminder spot on the list, while forwards Andy Andreoff, Carsen Twarynski, Samuel Morin (I guess?), and Connor Bunnaman finish the rest of the list, with Nate Prosser being the lone defender on the bonus squad.

In addition to this finalization, it’s interesting to see what players are currently with the Phantoms. A couple of teenage prospects in Zayde Wisdom, Tyson Foerster and Mason Millman are going to be spending their time in the AHL, until their respective junior leagues start up again. When will that be? We honestly have no idea.

Everything is coming together, pucks are going deep, dudes are being guys, and I for one, cannot be more excited to watch people skate around on the ice tomorrow night.
