Morgan Frost emphatically stating his case

Two weeks ago, the arguments for and against trading Morgan Frost were laid out, as his name had been frequenting trade-bait lists across the league.

Consider those rumors almost entirely dispelled, and chalk it up to Frost’s stellar play since advocating for himself to coach John Tortorella after a whopping 11th benching so far this season. Unless they’re completely blown away in a trade offer, expect the Flyers to hold onto their second-line center.

One recurring talking point was the potential return for a young center like Frost, in a market where Elias Lindholm and Sean Monahan fetched decent hauls. But if Danny Briere could only muster a late first-round-pick and some other less attractive futures in a deal for a center that still has a lot of career left like Frost, it’s tough to gamble on any of those pieces developing better than top-six potential.

The numbers since his last benching are undeniable. Frost has 15 points in the 17 games since January 6, good enough for second on the team behind Travis Konecny. The Flyers are collecting 59.29 percent of the expected goals at 5-on-5 with Frost on the ice since that time — only Noah Cates is better at 66.77 percent (via Natural Stat Trick).
