Tampa Bay-ja vu

What if I told you the Flyers would erase a big third period deficit to come back and tie the Tampa Bay Lightning, only to lose early in overtime?

“Bill, are you sure you didn’t just accidentally watch a replay of the Philly-Tampa game from November?”

I am sure I did not, hypothetical conversationalist.

Nope, the Flyers, who erased a 5-1 Bolts mid-third period lead on November 17 at the Wells Fargo Center only to miss out on the second point in three-on-three, followed a similar formula on Thursday night at the Amalie Arena. The Lightning took a 5-2 lead into the locker room after 40 minutes of action, but Dale Weise, Robert Hagg and Ivan Provorov scored consecutively in the opening nine minutes of the third to force overtime.

Unfortunatley, Alex Killorn dashed the comeback with the game-winning goal 18-seconds into the extra frame, with an assist credited to Anthony Cirelli. In November, Cirelli notched the deciding score, and Killorn earned the primary assist.

BSH Radio’s Facebook Live postgame show tries to put the loss in perspective. Give it a listen.
