On this date in Flyers history: Richards, Briere, and Leighton help force historic game seven against Boston in 2010

There were plenty of moments that fueled the Flyers’ improbable comeback from 3-0 series deficit in their 2010 Eastern Conference Semifinal against the Bruins, and May 12th provided a thrilling game six win to force the series back to Boston for a game seven.

Mike Richards started the scoring, putting home a rebound off a mad scramble in front of Tuukka Rask as the Flyers put the pressure right back on the Bruins less than 10 minutes in.

The Flyers kept the pressure on early even after Richards’ icebreaker, but had to wait until a power play chance in the second period to extend their lead with an insurance tally.

Daniel Briere would be the next to strike, using a rising snap shot to beat Rask to the glove side with an iconic goal to extend the lead to 2-0 with a little over three minutes left in the second period.

Wheel, snipe, celly… something Briere did early and often in that 2010 playoff run.

Down two with 20 minutes to play, the Bruins weren’t going quietly. Sensing their precarious position on the verge of losing three-straight and potentially staring at a collapse of epic proportions, Boston pushed hart in the third period but Michael Leighton stood tall and shook off a late Milan Lucic goal to force the Flyers onto Boston for game seven a few nights later. More on that in a couple days, though, but we think you’ll like the result of the May 14th edition.
