Thursday Morning Fly By: 1, 2, 3-4-5, six games left

* Before you move on to tonight’s game against the Islanders, wrap up Tuesday’s win over Ottawa with some observations and photos.

* Shayne Gostisbehere is adamant that his recovery from hip surgery is not the reason why he started so slowly and/or is playing much better now: [CSN Philly] (Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman had some brief notes on this topic last week, for the record. See Thought #2.)

* But let’s talk more about Jordan Weal: [CSN Philly]

* So that way we can talk less about Michael Del Zotto’s DJing: [BSH]

* Elsewhere, the NHL correctly decided that the lists of protected players for this June’s expansion draft will be made available to the public: [Sportsnet]

* Another team will soon join the ranks of “teams that try and fail to wear orange as well as the Flyers do”, that team being the Oilers: [TSN]

* The day after seeing its decades-long playoff streak come to an end, the Red Wings’ front office admitted yesterday it could probably use a rebuild: [Winging It In Motown]

* Steven Stamkos is almost back. Just in time to not play in the playoffs! Or maybe to catch the Bruins! [Raw Charge]

* Speaking of, here’s a closer look at the race for the East’s last two playoff spots up for grabs: [THN]

* Dave Hakstol’s old school, the University of North Dakota, made the surprising announcement on Wednesday that it would be cutting its women’s hockey program: [USCHO]

* The IIHF announced it will cover NHLers’ insurance and travel costs for the 2018 Olympics. Does this matter? [Puck Daddy]

* Finally, did you listen to this week’s BSH Radio? Why not? Go do that. If you already did, then you know it was extremely good, so maybe do it again.
