Wayne Simmonds: he’s good at scoring goals.
He has four straight 20-goal seasons. (He’d probably have six if it weren’t for the lockout; it would be at least 20 goals in every season since he joined the Flyers.)
He’s leading the Flyers in goals this season, just as he has for the past four seasons. (And ever since he came to Philadelphia, the worst he’s been is third on the team in goals.)
He’s good at putting up points in general – he has 194 career goals, 190 career assists – but it’s usually goals that get the glory, and his 194th was a milestone for him: his first in overtime. And, via the Elias Sports Bureau:
Before he scored that game-winning goal, Simmonds had the second-highest career goal total (193) among current NHL players who had never scored an overtime goal in a regular-season game, behind the Penguins’ Chris Kunitz (249 goals).
Simmonds has only had two overtime assists throughout his career; now, he finally has a goal to join them.
