BSH Radio reacts following a 3-2 OT victory over Montreal

The game was very much in doubt late in the third period, as the Philadelphia Flyers, who hadn’t lost in regulation since February 1st, trailed the Montreal Canadiens, a team that had lost its previous six road games, by a score of 2-1 with under two minutes remaining in the third period.

Then came Jake Voracek. Jakub tied the game with 1:25 left in regulation, and then scored the game winner on his second chance of the extra frame. It had been a frustrating night for the league’s assist leader, having passed on several high danger shooting opportunities and turning the puck over at a high rate. But in the end his three points (Jake picked up his 55th assist of the year on Nolan Patrick’s second period power play goal) were the difference in the game.

Shayne Gostisbehere collected a pair of assists (36th and 37th of the year), and deserved a third for the play he made to move the puck into the zone on Patrick’s goal, to set a new career high for points in a season, picking up his 46th and 47th of 2017-18, topping his rookie year total by one.

Alex Lyon earned his second career win, stopping 24 of 26 shots, and the Flyers avoided putting the league’s 28th ranked penalty kill on the ice for the third straight game, having not defended a short-handed situation since taking three penalties against the New Jersey Devils last Tuesday.
