No Sean Couturier? No Jamie Drysdale? No problem. Less than 24 hours after taking down the Minnesota Wild in St. Paul, the Philadelphia Flyers earned a massive 2-0 victory over the red-hot Winnipeg Jets at Canada Life Centre Saturday night. Cam Atkinson scored both of the Flyers\' goals while Sam Ersson pulled off the 35-save shutout for his 11th win of the season. The Basics First period: 14:47 — Atkinson (Farabee, Poehling) Second period: 02:52 — Atkinson (Frost, York) Third period: Scoreless Takeaways Atkinson\'s goalless drought ends Cam Atkinson scored his first goals since November 11 Saturday night, ending a whopping 27-game goalless drought — the longest dry spell of his NHL career. Atkinson\'s first marker came off an inadvertent pass from Ryan Poehling, who appeared to have been targeting Joel Farabee. The puck slightly grazed off the toe of Farabee\'s stick right into the wheelhouse of Atkinson, who redirected it through Connor Hellebuyck\'s five-hole. Atkinson netted his second goal of the night — this one coming on the power play (!) — just 2:52 into the middle frame when he buried a rebound created by Morgan Frost to double his squad\'s lead. https://twitter.com/BroadStHockey/status/1746342094468194312 Atkinson was all around the net in Winnipeg. Earlier in the first period, he was stopped by Hellebuyck at the backdoor after Egor Zamula hit him with a cross-crease feed from behind the net. One of Atkinson\'s best scoring chances was also denied by Hellebuyck\'s pad, but he ended up potting the icebreaker just moments before later. The power play is good? The Flyers\' power play may finally be turning a corner. With Atkinson\'s power-play marker in the second period, the Flyers have now scored on the man advantage in five straight games — easily its longest run of success this season. Perhaps most impressively, the Flyers managed to keep the power-play goal streak alive without two of their better players in the lineup. Sean Couturier was out of commission with a minor injury while newcomer Jamie Drysdale was held out due to an illness. The power play is still the Flyers\' biggest weak spot. This little five-game run doesn\'t change that. But at the very least, the slight progression is an encouraging sign. Ersson cooks Sam Ersson is the truth. He\'s demonstrated that throughout the season, and Saturday night was just more proof of it. At this point, it may be time to start wondering if he\'s more than just a stellar backup. Ersson logged shutout No. 3 of the season with his 35-save performance in Winnipeg, and he really had to earn this one. He was tested with quality scoring chances throughout the game, making flashy glove saves and tough stops through traffic in regularity. He was particularly strong in the third period. Peppered with 13 shots by a team desperate to narrow the gap, Ersson made some of his biggest saves of the night to close out one of his best games as an NHLer. Atkinson will be in the limelight after ending his goalless drought, but Ersson was the true star of the game.
