How the Jamie Drysdale acquisition changes the Flyers’ 2024 Draft

The NHL released their mid-season rankings for 2024 draft eligible prospects this week, and to no one’s surprise Macklin Celebrini is rated first in North America. Internationally, Konsta Helenius of Finland is the top prospect. As expected, the 2024 draft is looking heavy on defenseman, with nine of the top 20 being blueliners.

However, given how well the Flyers are playing, it’s likely they’ll be drafting outside the top ten; if the draft were held today, they’d be picking in the late teens. From the get go, Flyers management was adamant that they would not tank to get high end talent, and that’s very much playing out this season. Generally speaking, finding that true high-end talent outside the top ten is difficult–but it’s not impossible.
