LeBrun: ‘More likely than not’ that Flyers trade Sean Walker

The Philadelphia Flyers have been rumored to sell defenseman Sean Walker for months now. It started back in December after the right-handed blueliner had a stellar start to the year in Philadelphia. That has continued throughout most of the season and the Flyers have reportedly held firm on their asking price for him: a first-round pick.

There have been some rumblings that the Flyers could move pending free agents Nick Seeler and Sean Walker as a pair, but there have been more talks of the Orange and Black extending at least one of those two defensemen.

The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun reported on Monday night that he thinks “it’s more likely than not (Walker) does get moved.” He went on to note that the extension talks with Walker’s camp have quieted down, and although the Flyers may circle back there, “the word on Tuesday is that calls with teams are gaining traction.”

Walker is one of the best rental defensemen on the market and contending teams are always looking to add some depth on the blue line ahead of the playoffs. The Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers are both rumored to be interested in Walker, but it all depends on the price.

The Flyers are still holding to their price tag of a first-round pick for Walker. He’s one of the best defensemen on the market and there’s no reason for the Flyers to stand down just yet. That may occur as the deadline inches closer, but it could also move in the opposite direction with teams adding elsewhere while the Flyers wait things out.

Nevertheless, the Flyers are one of the teams to keep an eye on ahead of the trade deadline on Friday. Walker is the key guy who could be moved, but so could Seeler — despite his desire to stay in Philadelphia –, fellow pending free agent Marc Staal, and Scott Laughton if the Flyers get blown away with an offer.
