Monday Morning Fly By: On to free agency!

*And just like that, the draft madness is over. Ron Hextall made just about all of his picks this weekend, so let’s run them down, in case you were out living a happy and productive life this weekend rather than sitting at home glued to your computer reading about teenagers:

*With the first pick, the Flyers were lucky to grab Joel Farabee, who was projected to go in the top ten. [BSH]

*Next up at 19, Ron took another forward, Jay O’Brien. [BSH]

*That was it for round one. In the subsequent rounds we landed Adam Ginning at 50th, Jack St. Ivany at 112, the superbly-named Wyatte Wylie at 127, Samuel Ersson at 143, Gavin Hain at 174, and with the last pick at 205 the Flyers picked up Marcus Westfalt.

*Our pal Charlie was down in Dallas for the whole thing, and offers up a nice little recap of the Flyers’ weekend, for subscribers. [The Athletic]

*The draft was, on the whole, a quiet one for the Flyers. Their biggest possible reach was their pick at 19. [Philly.com]

*Ron also used this weekend to extend Samuel Morin; obviously they weren’t going to let the kid walk. [BSH]

*A lot of questions still remain about the big defenseman, given his injury history. And, interestingly enough, on of this weekend’s draft picks is already drawing comparisons to Morin. [NBC Sports Philly]

*And finally, it seemed that a lot of vocal fans in the Flyers universe were frustrated by Ron’s lack of action this weekend. Well, apparently Ron wasn’t happy about it either. It wasn’t for lack of trying; the right deals just weren’t there for Ron to pull the trigger. It’s a long offseason, though, and as we head into free agency this weekend Hextall will have a lot of opportunity to improve this team. Here’s hoping he does it. [Philly.com]
